The owner of Tom
Henry Racing, Chevrolet Dealer, Tom Henry, has a soft-spot for ZR1s. One reason
is that he's been a Corvette owner since the early 1970s. Another is that he
owned a ZR1, a Torch Red '95, for ten years.
During the period
he owned his ZR1 Tom Henry began focusing his parts department on all of the
special parts that made a ZR1 different from other C4 Corvettes, such as LT5
engine pieces, the components of the ZR1's "wide body", Selective Ride shock
absorbers and other SRC parts and ZF S6-40 transmission parts. Today, one of the
little known "secrets" of the ZR1 hobby is the excellent parts source that is
Tom Henry Racing. In fact, THR's ZR1 parts operation is so good that many of
the small, specialty repair and tuning shops which cat-er to ZR1 owners are Tom
Henry Racing customers.

Tom Henry Racing, GM Parts Direct Compared in Speech to ZR1 Owners Group
At the 2005
"Gathering", an event for ZR1 owners held every May at the National Corvette
Museum, magazine writer, Hib Halverson, and ZR1 service shop owner, Marc Haibeck, announced results of a parts price study. In short, Tom Henry Racing's
prices for ZR1 parts can't be beat. Halverson, who lives in California, has
written for Corvette magazines for the past 15 years and owns a 1995 ZR1, made
the announcement during speech at the Gathering's "Owner's Night Out" banquet.
Here are excerpts from his presentation.

"I
do most of my own work on my ZR1, which is 1995 VIN 140, Dark Purple Metallic
and Black with a 500-hp, AutoMasters Street Skinner engine package. There are
only two places I buy GM parts. When I need a part immediately, I go to a dealer
a few miles away from my office. If I can wait a few days, I always buy from Tom
Henry Racing--www.tomhenryracing.com--which is part of Tom Henry's Chevrolet
dealership in Bakerstown PA. One reason I deal with Tom is that he's been a
Corvette owner since he was a teenager. He was also a ZR1 owner, until just
recently he owned a '95. He been a staunch supporter of the ZR1 Net Registry
and these Gatherings for a long time. I also buy from Tom because he has the
best price.
"Urban legend is
that GM Parts Direct has the lowest prices.
"I wanted some
facts about the cost of ZR1 pieces bought on the Web, so I contacted Mark
Haibeck and asked him to pick 16 popular GM parts for ZR1s. For those 16 part
numbers, I compared Tom Henry Racing prices to GM Parts Direct prices. For a
total of the item price, shipping and handling, prices were lower at Tom Henry
Racing for 9 of those 16 parts. For the others, Tom Henry and GM Parts Direct
were the same. I'd imagine if we did the same with pieces specific to Grand
Sports we'd had the same results.
"In some cases GM
Parts Direct, a subsidiary of Flow Chevrolet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina,
has an item price which is lower, but add shipping and handling for each part or
each order of multiple parts, it's obvious, GM Parts Direct inflates shipping
and handling. In short, GM Parts Direct's overall prices are not the lowest and
seldom represent better than 20% off list."
